Creating the Crafty Life Monthly Challenge

Welcome to MY first Design Team project for Creating the Crafty Life or as most may know it CCL.  Misty asked me to be a member of the DT and of course I said yes! This is my first month with the team and I couldn't have started on a better month. Each month there is a theme that the DT sticks with all month long. Can you guess what it is?!?! ALTERED ART! Well the challenge is alter and item and you much incorporate lace. I love this theme so much.

Each month the challenge runs for the entire month and there are prizes to be won. So again this months theme is Altered Art.  Go crazy with it. I love working with $1.00 Michaels frames because they are super cheap and make some adorable pieces of altered art. Here is what they look like when purchased:

Here is what I turned it into:

I LOVE these colors together and that stamped sentiment in the middle was perfect to use with a bee theme! :)

Altering frames is very simple. Here is a brief step by step tutorial of how to alter a plain wooden frame.
1. Prep your unfinished wood surface with a gesso
2. Paint your surface with a matching to your project acrylic paint
3. Trace the outline of the frame onto the back of a patterned paper
4. Cut out frame shape from paper and cut out the inside as well
5. Adhere to paper using Mod Podge
6. Sand the edges to give a clean finished look
7. Decorate with embellishments and trims
8. VIOLA and altered piece of art

Supplies I used:
$1.00 Michaels Frame
Black gesso
Black Acrylic Paint
DCWV Lemon Stack for paper
Recollections, I Am Roses an Wild Orchid Crafts Flowers
Bee Embellishments from Recollections
Be Happy Stamp-Ditto
Black Crochet Lace by Recollections

Another MBT's Teach Me Tuesday!

Well hello there! I am so glad you decided to join me for another Teach Me Tuesday brought to you by MB's Treasurista.

This weeks TMT seriously couldn't be easier.  This month the DT received some gorgeous satin and organza pleated trim in three different colors.  The first being ivory, then brown and finally pale yellow. Check them out HERE! I knew that I adored the look of these trims but wasn't entirely sure I would use them because of the colors. I typically do not use white, ivories or pale colors. So here I sit thinking about what I can do with these... and VIOLA! I picked up from Tim Holtz Distress Ink and one of my applicators and I color away! Blues, greens, oranges, bright yellows, reds and pinks.... the possibilities are ENDLESS! You can literally (without any fancy schmancy glimmer mists or starburst sprays, but only because I do not own many at all) color up your trims. Here is a picture of the trim before the added color:

And after- look how nicely those colors were accepted and how vibrant they look! Wowza!

I hope you give this a try! Please be sure to visit MB's Treasurista HERE to get some of this awesome trim before it sells out.

For some inspiration, I created a card. I new I was wanting to make a card using butterflies and flowers because of the spring theme so here it is:

Front of card

For the front of the card I used two different Martha Stewart butterfly punches out of varying colors of cardstock. I inked some of the edges of the wings with vintage photo distress ink. For the corner embellishment I used two different I Am Roses and the rest of the items are from MB's Treasurista. The larger of the two brown acrylic is new to MBT this month as well as the ruffled trim across the bottom of the card.

 Inside of card

The paper used for this card is from an older Prima paper Madeline Collection. The sentiment is from the Vertical greetings stamp set and die from MFT.

Close up of flower embellishment
