Welcome to MY first Design Team project for Creating the Crafty Life or as most may know it CCL. Misty asked me to be a member of the DT and of course I said yes! This is my first month with the team and I couldn't have started on a better month. Each month there is a theme that the DT sticks with all month long. Can you guess what it is?!?! ALTERED ART! Well the challenge is alter and item and you much incorporate lace. I love this theme so much.
Each month the challenge runs for the entire month and there are prizes to be won. So again this months theme is Altered Art. Go crazy with it. I love working with $1.00 Michaels frames because they are super cheap and make some adorable pieces of altered art. Here is what they look like when purchased:
Here is what I turned it into:
I LOVE these colors together and that stamped sentiment in the middle was perfect to use with a bee theme! :)
Altering frames is very simple. Here is a brief step by step tutorial of how to alter a plain wooden frame.
1. Prep your unfinished wood surface with a gesso
2. Paint your surface with a matching to your project acrylic paint
3. Trace the outline of the frame onto the back of a patterned paper
4. Cut out frame shape from paper and cut out the inside as well
5. Adhere to paper using Mod Podge
6. Sand the edges to give a clean finished look
7. Decorate with embellishments and trims
8. VIOLA and altered piece of art
